The Chalice Well is one of the oldest continuously used holy wells in Britain. Archaeology has shown that the Spring was used by prehistoric tribes who inhabited this land, and for the last 2000 years we can be fairly sure that the site has been in constant use. To be at the well head , and drink the water and absorb the atmosphere of the place is truly an inspirational experience.

The above words are one of the first things I read when I first logged onto The Chalice Well web site, so being a very spiritual being and having lived in Somerset for the past sixteen years, I decided to visit the well. why I have never done so before I just don't know I've spent many hours on the Tor and in the town of Glastonbury itself but never visited the well, so somehow I knew it was the right time for me to go. I would like to tell you this this story about what I experienced there.

At the well head their was a man of about fifty years of age who had just placed a flora tribute on the well and was deep in prayer, he was praying out loud and in quite a loud voice, so it was quite easy for anyone to overhear anything he was saying, except that he was praying in a foreign language, as you could imagine in the quiet tranquil surroundings of the garden the sound of this man praying echoed throughout, sending out some very powerful vibrations lucky enough it was early morning and I think we were the only two people in the gardens. I decided to just sit there and absorb the emotional vibrations which where coming from the gentleman, it was then I started to understand what he was praying for I could feel the emotional pain he was going through .In fact the only way to describe it is that I had spiritually link with him even though we where of complete different nationalities, it was truly a amazing and wonderful feeling, I can only hope that he in turn experienced the love and compassion that I had been sending out to him, after awhile he got up and left, so I made my way to the well head and what a beautiful feeling.  I picked up on all the love which had been channeled to this place of Healing and I in turn sent out distant healing to all who had come there before me and all who would follow me there.

So if your in the area of Somerset (Glastonbury) then do pay them a visit. Chalice Well Web Site can be accessed via my LINKS page

Is It A Well or A Spring?
Chalice Well is actually a spring that naturally arises in this place. This spring itself is capped to ensure its purity and the water rises up in a stone or well shaft, that is believed to to be over 700 years old. At the time of its construction it probably stood above ground at a height of 10 feet or three metres. Since that time it has been covered by subsidence and landslides from Chalice Hill and the Tor.

Adjoining the well shaft is an irregularly shaped pentagonal chamber, which probably dates back to the 17th or 18th century. It's shape and purpose is a mystery but it's geometric proportions suggests a link with ancient Egypt and it's units of a measurement, so it may have been used for some kind of initiation relating to ceremonies offered up at that time. If you look into the well, the top of the inner chamber can be seen at the chalice Hill side.

The Well lid of wrought iron was designed by Frederick Bligh Bond, a sensitive who was the resident archaeologist of Glastonbury Abbey in the early 1900's.  It was given to Chalice Well as a Thank-offering for Peace in 1919, an ideal symbol for Universal Peace, by friends and lovers of the Well and of Glastonbury, representing every type of thought, Eastern and Western among them.  It was dedicated on All Saints' Day by the Ven. W. Farrer, Archdeacon of Wells.  The two interlocking circles of the iron work are ancientin origin and the symbolism has been found as the basis for numerous earth works and structures throughout the world.  It was also used in the Sacred Geometry of Glastonbury Abbey, with the Edgar Chapel included.  The early Christian Church called the central oval the Vesica Piscis and adopted it to represent the sacred fish.  This particular design is after a 13th century pattern and represents the Bleeding Lance holding in balance the Visible and the Invisible Worlds interlocked with each other.  It can also represent the Yin and the Yang, the meeting of the Conscious and the Unconscious and the blending of our Masculine and Feminine Natures.
